My Methods

Somatic Experiencing

When clients feel overwhelmed by trauma, talk alone isn't going to do very much. We have to go to the unspoken voice of our bodies." Peter Levine

Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based approach to working with stress-related responses and trauma.  It is oriented in a deep understanding of the nervous system.  Through a moment-by-moment process, client and therapist together identify, observe, track, and guide the client through the cycle of activation that humans (and for that matter, mammals) all experience.  SE offers a framework to find where a person is “stuck” in self-protective responses now commonly known as fight, flight or freeze. The clinical tools provided in Somatic Experiencing® gently guide clients towards increasing tolerance for uncomfortable feelings, thoughts, and body sensations, and help to find resolution of incomplete physiological states.

The knowledge behind SE is found at the intersection of physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics and has been helping people for more than four decades. It is the life’s work of Dr. Peter A. Levine.

Art Therapy

For me, art is the experience of what you’ve felt inside” Hossein Sabzian

Art Therapy is an integrative mental health process that can support mental, emotional and creative growth. It is the use of art making and exploration in the pursuit of deeper awareness. You do not need art “talent” or to “be an artist” to make use of Art Therapy.  With the guidance of a trained Art Therapist, the art making process helps to explore areas that talk therapy sometimes cannot reach, or to enhance your talk sessions.  If approached with curiosity, the art making can become a window into a deeper part of the mind, a memory, emotion, or dream. Reason cannot always explain what the heart is trying to say.  But maybe a picture can.
