Learn to look inward in a different, deeper way.

What is a session like with me?

A session can look a lot of different ways, but one main similarity is making time to pause and listen to the body and it’s cues in the present moment. Through art and somatic processes, sessions become an invitation to go beyond words, beyond just talking about your life, and into the present moment, your physical experience, and deeper levels of awareness.  The end goal is for you to move towards knowing and feeling that you can manage anything that happens in your life.

Sessions with me can address a variety of experiences:

  • Sudden incidents like a car accident, surgery, fall, or altercation

  • Long-term patterns of stress, overwhelm, or shut down

  • Past traumas that seem to still filter how you see the world or relate to others

A trauma can be anything that overwhelms the body’s ability to cope. Some sessions will bring newfound awareness and relief to you, while others may be more subtle.  In this space, in slowing down, we can tune in more, and look for the quiet clues in your physiology that can teach us how you and your nervous system relate to the world.

As an Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP), I provide a truly unique approach to what you bring to a session.  I offer a space to slow down and listen more deeply, sometimes through the body’s cues, sometimes through artistic expression, and more often through both at the same time. Somatic Experiencing® is a framework on which I build a session.  Then, bringing in art offers a wonderful tool to help you get out of the thinking mind and into the felt body experience. The art-making becomes an action to explore, and the artwork itself turns into an important resource where emotions and memory can arise and be felt.

In sessions, you can expect to have experiences such as:

  • Newfound internal awareness

  • Seeing stuck patterns more clearly

  • Releasing stored activation

  • Learning to listen to what your body is telling you

  • Creative exploration and collaboration towards your goals and wishes

By traveling inward slowly and exploring the subtle cues in your nervous system, we can complete patterns stuck from past events and increase your capacity to experience and manage your life as it arises.  I want to support you in creating something different in your life, something new, something better.

Somatic Experiencing

I can be a great fit for you if…

You have experience in self-work, whether in therapy, mindfulness, energy work or other modalities, and you are looking for a new way into depth and discovery.

You want to restore your capacity to be more present in the moment, in your body, thoughts, and emotions and change your experience of your life as more joyful.

You have an emotional pattern that is getting in the way of your daily life. Perhaps you get easily overwhelmed.  Maybe you have been told you have PTSD.

Maybe you have a talk therapist and are looking for trauma-focused somatic work to complement what you and your therapist are discussing.  We can all work together. (PS This isn’t necessary. We can work together whether you have a therapist or not)

I may not be a great fit for you if…

You are experiencing an immediate crisis and need emergency support.

You are looking for a licensed therapist or social worker in North Carolina. I am not one.

You are experiencing suicidal thoughts or unaddressed substance abuse for which you do not have other current therapeutic support.

Do you have a question? I might have the answer below.

  • 50-55 min sessions $130

    75-80 min sessions $150

  • The answer is no. I am private pay, only, and I cannot provide bills for insurance reimbursement. I am different from a licensed counselor or social worker.

  • There are lots of healing methods out there to support you, and there are benefits to them all. Traditional talk therapy relies more on discussions, emotions, and thoughts, and perhaps what is discussed is more linear.  But sometimes reason, logic, and talking do not reach the deepest parts of a memory or experience. Human brains are so great at logic, but it’s often the body, or felt experience, that holds the true message.  An Art/SE session is much more intuition and body-oriented.  We may discuss a traumatic event, but we may not.  We may only work with the sensations you are experiencing in your body in the present moment, or a drawing that depicts your experience deeper than discussing it. The purpose is not to only express an emotion, but to truly experience it, explore it to its fullest, and find resolution.

  • No, not at all! I want to work alongside your therapy work. I will reach out to your therapist once a month with an update on our work together. Think of me as an extra support on your journey to growing and healing.

  • Our first few sessions are a way for us to see if it’s a good fit to work together. We will review a few practice policies, review your intake form, and talk about your goals for therapy. There will be lots of space for you to ask questions.

  • First, Art Therapy is not just for artists or people “good at art.” The process of art making is an ancient way to express oneself, and everyone can do it. That being said, no, you do not have to make art. If you are only interested in the SE work, we can focus there.

  • I have a 24 hour cancellation and rescheduling policy. This means if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment and do so more than 24 hours before your scheduled appointment, you will not be charged a late cancellation/rescheduling fee. If you cancel or reschedule within 24 hours of your appointment, this is considered a late cancellation, and you are charged the full session fee.

I provide each of my clients one free late cancel/reschedule per year. After that, my clients are charged the full session fee. I hold a full hour for my clients, and it is very difficult to fill that time with short notice. This policy helps me maintain a consistent work schedule for myself and my clients.

A no show-no call is charged the full session fee.

  • I am an approved session provider at the beginning level.
